Another amazing clip. This is soon becoming an archive. Wonderful stuff!
In 1950 I was 18 and I was living in Madeira. It was actually the year Winston Churchill spent a holiday there. I can remember his disembark in Funchal, from a Union Castle Line ship on 1st January. He enjoyed a 10 days holiday at Reid’s Hotel with his wife, but had to rush back by seaplane – Aquila Airways had regular flights between Southampton and Funchal – to fight an earlier than expected general ellection. And, he won! I wonder if this is better known, maybe in the very near future, Madeira will be chosen again, for “batteries charging” of the Tory candidate, if and when he is prepared and determined to to win the election…. (by the way, I am Portuguese)

@Francisco: Great information. Thank you. Do you by any chance have photos from those days?
I was ‘surfing in the net’ and found this, today – 15.08.2010. Yes, I have photos of that time and, should you still be interested, do not hesitate – be in touch!
