		<description>In 1950 I was 18 and I was living in Madeira. It was actually the year Winston Churchill spent a holiday there. I can remember his disembark in Funchal, from a Union Castle Line ship on 1st January. He enjoyed a 10 days holiday at Reid&#039;s Hotel with his wife, but had to rush back by seaplane - Aquila Airways had regular flights between Southampton and Funchal - to fight an earlier than expected general ellection. And, he won! I wonder if this is better known, maybe in the very near future, Madeira will be chosen again, for &quot;batteries charging&quot; of the Tory candidate, if and when he is prepared and determined to to win the election.... (by the way, I am Portuguese)
