Attention! The next video that you will see is not Madeira! (to avoid any future hoax saying otherwise)
It is not the Levada do Rei … but it is El Caminito del Rey (The King’s little pathway), an old path in El Chorro, near Álora in Málaga, Spain.
To access the hydroelectric power plants at Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls workers used this path to cross between the falls, transporting materials etc. It was build from 1901 till 1905.
Unfortunately there is no maintenance any more and got into extremely deteriorated and dangerous state. According to the regional government it will take approx. € 7 million to restore the walkway.
Lets hope that this kind of situation does not happen on Madeira.
